Juarez Machado was born in Joinville SC, he is a painter, sculptor, draftsman, mimic, caricaturist, set designer, writer, photographer, actor and designer. Machado at the age of 18 moved to Curitiba and enrolled at the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná. As soon as he graduated, he held his first solo show at Galeria Cocaco, Curitiba, beginning his career.
In 1965, he moved to Rio de Janeiro and after several international trips aiming to spread his art worldwide, Juarez Machado took up residence in Paris, in 1978, where he set up another studio. He won the prize of the 5th Art Biennial of Italy, Scenarios in Television award, the “Barriga Verde” award for Plastic Arts in Santa Catarina, the Nakamori award (Japan) for the best children's book, among others. In 2014, Juarez opened the International Juarez Machado Institute in Curitiba , and in 2015, to celebrate one year of the Institute's existence, Juarez held an exhibition in Curitiba where he gathered 200 pieces for the “Juarez Machado na Hora do Recreio” exhibition. The artist is recognized for his slight surrealism and for exploring his works as irreverent social criticisms.
